Getting to know Google’s Privacy Sandbox on Android terminology

Preparation is essential in the privacy era. At Adjust, we’re continuing to work closely with Google ahead of the Privacy Sandbox on Android rollout. Our continual testing ensures that we’re on top of all nuances and technical specifications, and that its features align with our clients’ requirements for success.

Google’s recent announcement that they will not be deprecating third-party cookies on Chrome has naturally prompted questions on the Android side regarding what this means for the GAID. The status quo of Privacy Sandbox reducing reliance on the GAID, not necessarily deprecating it—at least not any time soon—is unchanged by Google. As Google continues to develop and improve the solution ahead of its release, advertisers and developers can also continue preparing, and even join as testers.

One Privacy Sandbox element that’s already proving complex is the terminology it uses to describe its functionality, which differs from the vocabulary commonly used across the ad tech industry. That’s exactly why we’ve put together this glossary of terms, to provide app marketers and developers with everything needed to get familiar, confident, and prepared.
